[gui-talk] collapsed/uncollapsed OE messages announced out of nowhere

I've seen others ask questions about this, but it's never before happened to
me. Let me say first that I'm aware of the items in the OE View menu that
let you set message lists to display collapsed or uncollapsed, and that has
something to do with managing the display of threads, a capability I think
is used more often in managing newsgroup messages than ordinary email
messages. So I'm aware of this function.

but I don't do newsgroups, and I've never made any use of this choice in the
View menu. But suddenly, this morning, some messages, though not all, in my
OE Inbox have been announcing themselves as collapsed, causing me to get a
warning notice when I go to delete them that doing this will delete all
messages in that thread. I suppose the affected messages must be ones that
share a subject line with others that are either still in the Inbox or even
sitting in Deleted Items?

"That's strange," I thought to myself, and opened the View menu and played
around with checking the Collapsed and then the Uncollapsed item, and going
back to look at my Inbox messages.

but if I checked Uncollapsed, now many of them, though not all (maybe just
the ones with subject lines OE remembered having seen recently in other
messages? I'm not keeping track) announced themselves as uncollapsed,
instead.

Well, I just want this to stop. I don't want to hear this anymore, or have
to worry about accidentally deleting messages I didn't mean to delete, or
haven't even yet seen even though OE has noticed them, just because I hadn't
yet come to them among my new messages and they were in the same thread. I
just want this to stop.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I've exited and relaunched
OE, but that didn't fix it. Then I closed all running apps and rebooted my
system. That didn't help, either.

If it matters, I'm using Jaws V. 8.0.2107, but obviously restarting my
computer involved exiting and relaunching Jaws, too, in case it was
momentarily befuddled in some way, as happens sometimes with this release.

I'm pretty frustrated. Advice sought.
