[gui-talk] speaking of Open Book's FAX utility

Well, mine can't even *send* faxes. I tried to set it up, and followed all
the steps as I was supposed to, but then found out-- and this was confirmed
for me by someone either on a mailing list like this or on the phone to FS,
I forget which-- that the FAX utility in OB can't work through a broadband
connection, which is what I'm using. It can only use dial-up. That is hard to
believe, but then this program is something of an orphan "legacy"
application for FS,, I believe, since they acquired it from Arkenstone, and
it's got all sorts of archaic, obsolete and goofy stuff going on with it.
Fortunately for me, it isn't very often that I really need to fax out or
receive a fax, with no alternative. May I ask why having fax capability
matters so much if one is losing one's hearing, to put it politely (I've
lost most hearing on one ear due to a benign tumor on that vestibular
nerve)? I may be missing something, like a brain, but I didn't get how this
helped, to have fax capability.
.

Ah yep, its always marvelous when you can do something like that and
I wouldn't be without my fax particularly now that my hearing is near
to gone.
I've used a number of different fax applications including Winfax and
all have had their strengths and weaknesses as pieces of software do
but I know I'm really going to celebrate when I finally work out how
to send faxes with the Mac's built-in fax software. <smile>.
I had bagged K1000 on this list and I take back a few poitns of what
I said. One of the really nice things I do like about K1000 however
is its built-in fax utility, the people at Kurzweil have done a
really neat job with this and its perfectly fitting for the K1000
application to have this utility particularly when it can be set up
to receive faxes as well, that's more than can be said for Open Books
fax utility which I'm told can only send faxes, howe useful is that
<smile>.
Finally on the subject of faxes, the best way to send and receive
faxes I've found is through a dedicated fax machine, I have one of
the HP variety which intergrates with the computers on the network
here and that opens up a whole range of faxing possabilities.

I'm always happy when I can figure something out without help. I just
set up
and successfully sent a fax from the program called Fax. I use

results.
