[gui-talk] external hard drive question

I have one of those. It's 250 gig or 150 gig, I don't remember which.
It's very convenient, and it worked for maybe two years without a
hitch, though I don't remember exactly how long I've had it. Now
though, it's giving me a lot of what sounds like bad sectors, so I'm
curious if anyone has MTBF info on these things. I admit I haven't
looked though. I carry this one around a lot, so it may well have
just received one too many shocks in its travels.

Due to this situation though, I recommend that any portable drive that
is used portably, if you will, should be backed up somewhere less
migratory. Fortunately, I took my own advice for this drive, at least
with stuff I knew I did not want to lose.
