I'm at the New York Times online right now, and I realize it might help if I 
were more precise about when this thing happens. It isn't when I click on 
the first page of an article (here, or in the Los Angeles Times, and other 
places, too). It's when I click on the Print or Printer friendly link that 
this thing come up that I have to close in order to reveal the page I've 
loaded.

BTW, it isn't that I'm printing out news articles on my HP for others to 
read offline. I always use the Printer Friendly version of a page to get a 
consolidated story instead of it being split into parts, and without all the 
global navigation links, sidebars and inline advertising frames that 
interrupt the first version of the article. A nice trick I discovered long 
ago. Handy for copying and pasting an article into an email, too, if you 
prefer to share an article that way  rather than send someone a link to the 
article.
