there are others here who are more technically astute than I am, and maybe 
be able to guide you through the problem.  But may I suggest that the first 
thing that might help is to distinguish between what has to do with Outlook 
Express and what is in the province of your ISP and its email server.

In this case,your message isn't suggesting to you that something has 
mysteriously gone wrong with your trusty email client, Outlook Express. 
It's saying that there's some sort of problem it can't or won't explain at 
the other end, your email server.

Others may have more astute suggestions to offer, but if I were in your 
situation and suddenly unable to use my email service, I'd immediately call 
tech support at Earthlink and report this problem to them, to start with. 
Again, it isn't very likely that your email program is just misbehaving in 
some way.gan,

I am going to try to send this out. I use Outlook Express 6 and Windows XP
home edition. Up until just a few minutes ago, I was sending and receiving
e-mail fine. Now when I try to send and receive e-mail, I get the following
error message.
An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.earthlink.net', Server:
'pop.earthlink.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number:
0x800C013B

Any help would be appreciated. I will check for answers and see if I can
access my e-mail from Earthlink. Right now. Outlook Express does not seem to
be working.
