Another way to avoid the system slowdown is to try to schedule the events, 
like updating or scanning for viruses, when you won't be on your computer, 
like in the middle of the night or when you're at work. This way, you've got 
a good chance of missing the slowdown, unless you stay home sick or have a 
holiday that is.
