My laptop was purchased gfor me from a family member as a Christmas gift

last year.  3 months after I got it it crashed because of a virus and I
took 
it to a repair shop where they claimed to have fixed it by installing a
new 
version of windows x p and deleting my old one.  They put all my drivers
in 
like they were when I first got the machine.  Things worked fine until
about 
a week ago.  My computer at odd times will display a windows XP 24
Error. 
Your system has unrecognizable file types on windows.  Please insert the
XP 
cd and run the repair feature.  I no longer know where the man is who
fixed 
it because he moved and I am now in New York at school.  Does anyone
have 
any suggestions?  When I call Dell everyday for help with this they just
say 
that If I send it back they will not fix it unless it is something 
physically wrong such as the screen cracking or one of the drives not 
popping out right.
