[gui-talk] Looking for cd extractor

Denise,
No problem. You know, it isn't hard to guess, now that Ed's figured out
what you meant, that the "ex" in CDex probably stands for "extractor," but
honestly, that little freeware program is used and mentioned by nearly
everyone, it seems, and no one ever mentions the word "extract" or anything
when they mention the program.

I don't know why you think Windows Media Player needs something special to
do what you want to do. I taught myself to rip CD tracks to compressed
music files with it, and I swear it gives you a choice between creating .mp3
files and .wma files. I think you may have misunderstood what you found
there. But I'll say one thing: Although I'll bet a couple of people,
hearing this, will pipe up and say they navigate WMP very handily and I must
be a very befuddled soul, I found the WMP interface for this function too
confusing for my taste, mostly because of all the controls for a zillion
other functions you have to tab through to do the thing. I simply gave up
on it, free or not.

But CDex will work for you, and so will other things. If you want a hand
learning to use CDex, ask on the list and I'm sure a few of us can steer you
through setting the settings and all that.

Hi Joel and others:
Thanks for the information. Joel, your right. I misnamed what I
was looking for. Ed was able to pick up on what I was talking
about. Though I plan to look at your program as wel. I was
wanting to rip my cds to mp3 to use on my bookcourier because
that device currently doesn't support wma files. I had intended
to rip using windows media player 10 but it requires an in coder
even though ms says no incoder is needed because its already
included in mediaplayer 10. I am not sure how speech friendly
media player is anyway.

But how

word
>"extractor," and I assume she must be misnaming the only such
program I know
>with the word "extractor" in its name.

>oh, well. I did mention CDex to her, too.
