Graphics Designer II Products
This position will remain open until filled.
Under the supervision of the Director of the
Research Department, this position recommends and
implements policies and procedures related to
providing quality graphic design services that
result in the development of products that meet
the needs of blind and visually impaired
consumers of APH products. This position works
in collaboration with various project
leaders/staff in the Research Department, outside
graphic design vendors, as well as key staff in the Production Division.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides quality graphic design solutions
to assigned APH products, prototypes, product packaging and support materials.
2. Writes graphic design details provided to
APH Purchasing Department, Technical Research
staff, APH production staff, and outside vendors.
3. Develops and monitors established
timelines for completing project phases,
including the communication of deadlines or
updates to designated project leaders.
4. Identifies and recommends the hiring of
temporary contract workers or consultants on an
as needed basis. This task includes providing
creative direction to contract workers or
consultants to ensure consistent product quality,
as well as informing the Director or his
designee, of work progress or in-house adjustments that may be required.
5. Reviews all proofs created by graphic
design resources such as those created in-house
or by external vendors or contractors to ensure
consistency in quality and accuracy.
6. Maintains an up-to-date and high level of
experience in graphic design, printing technology and tactile graphics.
7. Provides training to all resources hired
to ensure that quality graphic design standards
are applied to all products created for APH product consumers.
8. Participates in meetings with the Director
of Research, Assistant Director, project leaders,
and other staff/vendors as required.
Education, Training, and Experience Requirements:
1. BA/BS degree in graphic design or related
arts, business, humanities such as fine arts, art
history, communication, public relations,
marketing. (Other educational experience and/or
years of experience may be considered for substitution.)
2. Five years of verifiable experience in areas
such as project management, art or creative
direction, graphic design, outsourcing of
contracting design, and illustration and
photography for an in-house graphic design
department or advertising agency. (Other
educational related experience and//or years of
related experience may be considered for
substitution). As part of the screening and
review process, applicants selected for an
in-house interview will be required to submit a portfolio of work.
3. Highly developed project and time management
skills, with the ability to manage multiple
designers handling over 100 projects at varying
stages of development and with aggressive timelines.
4. High degree of energy and creativity, along
with exceptional problem solving skills, and skills in graphics.
5. Strong interpersonal skills a must.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of
software, such as Adobe Illustrator or Freehand,
Adobe PageMaker, InDesign or Quark XPress, Adobe
Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft PowerPoint,
Job Tracking/Scheduling Software.
Compensation:
Pay Grade: 15
Minimum: $16.06
