Sounds like you are in the play list view. Press control tab to cycle
around to the main winamp window and your files should begin playing
immediately when you select them.

Also, when I bring up a file in WinAmp to play, how could I get the file to
start playing automatically?
It brings up a list of all the files and doesn't start playing and the most
recent file is at the end not the beginning.
