[gui-talk] Shopping for a Web site designer

I'm planning to create a personal Web site to display a number of my stories 
online, most of which have been published, and a couple of which haven't 
been.  Just the basic writer's personal Web site.

My hope is to find someone with these qualifications:

1.  Can provide a template or modular sort of system (Wordpress,, etc.) 
that, once set up, will allow me and a friend to make changes, post new 
material, post photos and artwork, etc., without having to turn again to the 
designer.

My friend is fairly Web-savvy for a non-tecchie; he maintains two effective, 
attractive Web sites himself, one for his own professional presentation as a 
writer, journalist and teacher, and one for his online travel magazine.  So 
we'll be good partners for taking care of the upkeep of my own site, once 
it's online, as long as we have something manageable to work with.

2.  Has basic knowledge of screen reader accessibility design factors, so he 
or she can incorporate the right touches into the application of the 
template or system for this site.  This is absolutely critical.  If the 
rudiments in fact are pretty simple, okay, I'd just point the person to the 
w3c and any other good resources for learning that stuff.  But they'd have 
to be able to learn it quickly.  I don't want to begin with a mess where 
links and page elements aren't in the right kind of order for Jaws and other 
screen readers, and so forth.  It's got to be screen reader accessible right 
from the start.

3.  As the site will be meant for a general audience, I'll need someone 
sighted, with a sense of taste and proportion about the appearance and 
layout of page elements, colors, fonts, etc.  As my own orientation to 
something like this is visual, even though I can't see clearly now, I need 
to be able to communicate in those terms with the person, and trust them in 
this way.

Can anyone recommend someone with these qualities, hopefully someone whose 
fees aren't too expensive?
