[gui-talk] daisy files

Scott,

I do all my news reading online, just by going to, in my case, the Los
Angeles times and New York times sites:
http://www.latimes.com

http://www.nytimes.com

-- and every newspaper in the country, and abroad, has a web site, too,
practically. For convenience, I even get a morning email from both those
papers with the most interesting headlines of the day for each section of
the paper listed, complete with live links so that if I don't feel like
going to the site's home page to start and look around, I can just click on
some of these links, instead. I'd much prefer that to depending on a third
party service, which I can't see the point of, myself. Nothing personal,
just saying this is the normal way to get the news online from the
mainstream papers. And of course it's not a hassle with Jaws unless there's
something really Jaws-unfriendly about the page design, which rarely happens
anymore.

Thanks for that. I like newsline and with the ability to get my papers via
email, I'll be using it even more, since otherwise I have to wait to use it
at night or on weekends when it doesn't cost me cell phone minutes. I know I
can also use bookshare to get the papers too, but it is nice to have the
convenience of email delivery.

I wouldn't apologize. It was clear to me. But sometimes we're in a hurry
and miss something because we read too quickly and maybe we're distracted.
Happens all the time. Just trying aying to help by restating. Not your
fault.
Now I hope you find a solution.

You are correct. I'm sorry I didn't explain things more clearly in my
earlier messages.

Hi,
I think Scott's saying that he has Daisy readers already, two of them, which
he got in connection with his membership in both RFD&D and Bookshare. The
problem is that these readers seem to be restricted to working only with
files associated with those two organizations, one for one, the other for
the other, and that he can't use either of them to read the many other Daisy
files available to him, such as something from Newsline. Am I correct in
thinking that's what you're asking, Scott?

No, I don't know the answer to the problem. I just wondered if there was a
misunderstanding here.

There is a Victor Reader software player in the Tools section of Bookshare.
This is available to Bookshare members. It is also possible to have the
Bookshare unpack program create HTML files, which are quite readable in a
web browser.
