Hi Alan and everyone,
I know it's been a few days since this thread was active.

I can add that I attended Theological College here in Australia in the
'Eighties.

I accessed the rfb & d catalogue and my local State Agency also read books I
wanted onto 4-track casette.

In those days, there was also a disabilities subsidy which I used to
purchase numbers of print reference and other books.

The State Agency arranged for volunteers to come and read articles from
library journals onto casette at the college for me so I could use them as
part of my essay preparation.
Our volunteer librarian also helped by preparing the journal issues so as to
save the volunteers' time.

I obtained a Hebrew Old Testament from the Jewish Braille Institute in New
York and a Greek New Testament from the German school for the blind at
Marburg (both in braille).

In those days, I typed my essays and exams with sighted helpers reading them
back to me in case of a missed mistake.

My Greek and Hebrew exams were done on casette i.e. I was given the passage
to translate and analyse and did it on tape.

I was given a little extra time but mainly didn't use it.

I lived at home in those days so accommodation wasn't an issue but my
college was not a live-in place, anyhow.

Stefan Slucki.
