Dear NF friends,

It's rare that I send out this type of appeal, but I am compelled.  Three of our members are facing life-threatening circumstances and need your prayers.  All are from Grand Rapids.

Jeremiah Martinez, 22 months, son of Jaime Martinez and Tylinda Calvin, has an inoperable NF tumor behind his heart which is blocking off his airway.  A year of chemo has not kept it from growing.  This week he had a tracheotomy to insert a breathing tube.  Doctors are searching for an effective chemo treatment.

Matthew Robinson, 5 later this month, successfully fought a Wilms tumor (a childhood kidney cancer) as a three-year-old.  This week a scan showed a malignancy in his liver that will be very challenging to treat.  Matthew is the son of Rodney and Jodi Robinson.

Susan Korda, 31, daughter of Steve and Irene Korda, defied all predictions and has lived nearly three years since being diagnosed with an aggressive malignancy in her cervical spine (lower neck).  She has been in a wheelchair since then, but has never stopped believing.  She is undergoing radiation this month as the cancer has spread to her brain and lungs.  

Please keep Jeremiah, Matthew and Susan in your prayers.  Consider asking your church to add these friends to their prayer chains.

To all concerned parents, these are extremely rare NF complications.  In the 22 years that I've been keeping NF records for West Michigan, we've only lost one child under the age of ten.  The need to help Jeremiah, Matthew and Susan means unfortunately I may raise anxieties among our families.  I wish it weren't so.
