Good evening everyone,

Last night I learned from my mother that Tim, my last guide dog was
euthanized this past Tuesday due to his declining health and quality of
life. My sister and her boyfriend took him last winter before I got his
successor. Those of you on the NAGDU List will recall that he was going down
hill and developed Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Although they did all they
could to make his retirement pleasurable and enjoyable his arthritis took
its tole and he began developing respiratory trouble. The vet tried treating
him with medication, but to no avail. It got to the point to where he
couldn't get up or stand for long periods of time without being in
excruciating pain, and having to lean on something for support. Last Tuesday
we decided that it was time for him to cross the rainbow bridge.

He was a good dog and served me well for over 11 years. I'm glad that
he was able to spend the last five months of his life just being a dog. You
will meet his successor, a male black Lab named Johnny in Atlanta in two
weeks. This will be his first NFB convention, and I know he'll handle it
well. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers and thoughts.
