Greetings:
George and I have had some informal discussions regarding the newsletter for
the division. I believe that the newsletter would have article on a wide
variety of topics. As and example, I thought we would have some articles
regarding the work of the division. As an example, the Presbyterian Church
U.S.A publishes a Sunday school magazine entitled The Present Word. For many
years, the denomination published this magazine in Braille and on cassette
for their blind members who lived in the U.S. and worldwide. Last fall, the
denomination ceased publication of the magazine for blind people due to
budget constraints. When I was contacted regarding this matter, I spoke with
leadership of the denomination, suggesting that they might wish to continue
publication, charging a subscription fee for the readers of the magazine.
They were hoping to resume publication in the fall, but this in contingent
upon whether a sufficient number of members will subscribe to the
publication. I believe that we could publish news articles regarding the
latest things that are available for blind people who are involved in faith
based organizations and places of worship. I believe that the newsletter
could also publish inspirational articles as well.
Linda Mentink is right when she mentioned that the board of the division,
along with George McDermith, the newsletter editor will discuss how the
newsletter should be published. I thought that it would be good to first get
the articles first then we would make decisions as to how the newsletter
would be published. I look forward to your responses. You can also contact
me directly via email. My email address is tanderson at cocenter.org
