From Pete: for more information about the Logos Library System visit: httpwhststwww.logos.com. Obtain their phone number, and give them a ring to find out if they still sell version 2.0. That version works quite well with Jaws, and I believe it will work well with Window-Eyes too. Several years ago they introduced Series X which utilizes the Libronix Engine. It's an interface used by libraries and other types of professional software. When Libronix appeared on the scene we were disappointed to discover that the accessibility for the blind left much to be desired. Efforts have been made to work constructively with Logos Research Systems to improve the Libronix accessibility, but they have borne little if any fruit sad to say. Check with your local Christian Bookstore, or try the Friends of Israel Gospel Ministries, Through the Bible, and some other distributors of this product whose name escapes me right now. You may still get version 2.0 from them. Be aware that some of the most recent releases of electronic books in LITTLES format will only work under Series X. If funds permit perhaps buying both versions, and tinkering around with Series X to see if you can make it work for you should be considered.
There are other Bible software packages that some blind people have used successfully such as the Theopholis Bible Program. I believe that the PC Study Bible, and older versions of Quickverse work pretty well with screen readers too.
From John: I do most of my Bible reading on the Web. The sites are very accessible. Here is a site that has many versions of the Bible in many different languages: httpwhststwww.biblegateway.comstcgi-binstbible. The NIV, which I usually read, has footnotes. Another good site if for the New American Bible, which is the official Catholic version. It is httpwhststwwwsionccbuscc.orgstnabstbiblestindex.htm. It also has footnotes. Unlike the NIV, it does not have explanatory headings.
From Nicole: I like NAB Deluxe Bible. The NAB stands for "New American Bible," which is a Catholic version of the Bible.
You can get it from wwwountheophiloslessk Look for the free package and - if you want a modern translation in addition to the KJV - also look for the WEB (World English Bible) free add-on.
From Dave: there are a number of sources for children's books. The American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults publishes what they call Twin Vision books. National Braille Press sells some as does Seedlings in Michigan.
