Subject: [Faith-talk] Miscellaneous matters

Greetings:

It has been a vfew days since I have written on this list.

First of all, the Xavier society is an organization that produces Catholic
periodicals and other materials in Braille, Large type, and cassette. It is
located at 154 East 23rd Street New York, New York, 10010. their phone
number is (800) 637-9193. I have heard some concerns from some people who
are Catholic that the Xavier Society is patronizing when dealing with blind
people. My hope is to establish a committee of the National Asociation of
the Blind In Communities Of Faith which will have some discussion from those
that are Catholics in order to arrive at a consensus regarding the problems
that may exist with the Xavier society and suggestions for resolution of
these problems.

The Presbyterian Church of the U.S.A is now producing their Sunday school
periodical entitled The Present Word in Braille, and on Cassette. The cost
to receive this magazine is $22.00 for the Braille and $12.00 for the
cassette version.

A friend of mine informed me of a web site where books can be read online,
or can be downloaded to your computer. The website is
www.glorifyhisname.com.I <http://www.glorifyhisname.com.i/> am enjoying the
writings of Andrew Murray.

Some people have expressed some difficulty in finding churches. It is not
always easy to find a church that is suitable. I have some suggestions and
thought provoking questions which might be helpful in this quest for the
right fellowship.

1.	Prayer is a key to finding the right place. I trust that the Lord
will lead you to the right church.John 10 verses 4 and 5 tell us that his
sheep know his voice, and a stranger will they not follow, but will flee
from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
2. Are your expectations in line with God's expectations? Some people
say: "I want a large church where I can become lost among the many." The
Lord may wish for you to go to a smaller fellowship where you may become
more actively involved.
3. Some people indicate that they have been discriminated against
because of blindness. Discrimination has been defined as unreasonable and
detrimental classification. Are you being unreasonably and detrimentally
treated? If so, How?
4.	I believe that when a person becomes a new creature in Christ, that
person is 1 percent spirit ant 99percent flesh. As a person grows in the
Lord, surrendering to his will and pleasure, this changes in that the spirit
has more rule over the mind and the flesh. As a result, the percentages
change. As you know, the old hymn says: "Have thine own way" and does not
say "Have my own way." I believe that the key to being successful in finding
and staying in a church is in educating the members that blind people are
normal people who happen not to see. There is a time to be patient and a
time to speak up, and knowing through the leading of the Spirit of God when
to do which.

On a personal note, I thank you all for your prayers for me regarding the
lymphoma cancer. I had a CT scan yesterday, and I am trusting the Lord
regarding the results of these tests. The ratuxan treatments will begin
again in September.

God Bless you all and have a wonderful day.

Cordially,

Tom Anderson
