Hi, all with the holidays coming up most of you will probably want to buy a DVD or have a family member give a DVD as a gift. Well there are some DVD's with DVS on them and they are accessible for even a blind person to turn the DVS track on without sighted assistance.
So far by Disney and Pixar anamations, Cars 2 and Toy Story 3 have an audio DVS option for blind people.
When you insert the DVD or Blueray into the DVD's drive, and load the movie, you will hear a chime in the TV or stereo speakers. Once you have heard the chime, simply press the number 5 key and the select key. The number 5 key on the DVD remote is usually marked with a dot on the remote. If your remote does not have a dot, for example, some portable DVD's dont have the 5 button marked on the remote, then I would put some type of marker such as high mark on it if at all possible.
Once you find the 5 key and the select or play key, then press this key combination.
Note: You have to press one and then the second key. It's not like pressing them both together as you would do on an Apex such as chording.
Once you have pressed the 5 key and the select or play keys, wait about 30 seconds and the movie along with the DVS track will start automatically.
The Grinch who stole Christmas directed by Ron Howard has a different approach and a more safisticated audio navigation system.
This movie not only has the DVs track but all the menus talk. Unlike the previous movies I had just talked about, the option to load the DVS track only loads the track and nothing else. The difference with this movie is the entire menu system talks!
How does this work do you ask Well once you insert the DVD into the DVD player the introduction anamation screen will come up and start playing music and sounds from the movie. Some DVD players will allow you the ability to skip this step so you will not have to watch the entire anamation sequence by pressing the menu button. Once the menu button has been pressed, you will then heare the music from the movie's soundtrac and on the scren the DVD menu will appear. Simply press the number 1 key and either the select or play key to load the audio navigation menu. Once the menu hasbeen loaded, you wil hear Miles Neff's voice talk you through the instructions on how to navigate the various menus and other options.
I hope the above information is useful for you.
