DB-Review is a list dedicated to discussion of digital talking
books
available for download or via mail from the National Library
Service for
the Blind and Physically Handicapped and its network of libraries.
Discussions of titles in this list will be limited to audio
publications
in the NLS digital talking book program.
Throughout the week, you will receive several messages from the
list
moderators which will include descriptions of books in the
collection
and a compilation of comments from reviewers. In addition to
receiving
messages from the list moderators, you as a list member may submit
brief
reviews and recommendations of your own regarding NLS digital
talking
books you have read. Tell us about the ones you enjoyed and why
or
about the ones that didn't impress you and why. What are your
thoughts
on the performance of the narrator? Was the book marked up such
that
you could navigate it easily and intuitively? These are just some
of
the ideas you can include in your own reviews.
The list is also your opportunity to discuss books and magazines
in
the
NLS digital collection. What would you like to see added to the
collection?
The primary focus of the list is to encourage all of us to broaden
our
horizons and try a book or magazine we may not have tried in the
past.
The list is owned by Nolan Crabb, and it is not endorsed or
sponsored in
any way by the Library of Congress or any of its divisions
including the
National Library Service for the blind and Physically handicapped.
So who can join? If you currently download material from the
nlstalkingbooks.org site, please feel free to sign up. In
addition, the
list is open to authors, narrators, friends, and relatives of
those
who
are eligible to receive digital talking books from the NLS
collection.
Those not eligible to receive NLS material are certainly welcome
on
the
list, but we will focus on audio titles from NLS as opposed to
other
digital audio book providers like Audible, CNIB or RFB&D.
To subscribe, send a blank e-mail to
db-review-requests at freelists.org
and write the word "subscribe" in the subject line (minus the
quotations).
