[Dtb-talk] Comments On NLS Digital Player System

I believe that the NLS player will only use the cartridges although I also
believe there is a USB connection of some type on the player. NLS seems
committed, however, to making specs available such that after-market
manufacturers can produce blank cartridges with SD cards or USB ports on
them such that books could be downloaded to them and played on the NLS
players.

As the author of a open source DAISY production software I am aware of
what the NLS target audience is. I am trying to find out if books
produced on my system can be played on the new NLS players.

So the issue is this given that the NLS players read USB in the form
of their special cartridges my users will want to know if they must
used those cartridges or if the USB port on the side will accept other
USB media. If it is only the special cartridges where will agencies
other than NLS get them?

The old NLS tape players could play a tape from anyone, is the same
true for media with these players?
