[Dtb-talk] Comments On NLS Digital Player System

Hi Linn,

Yes, I had all the time I wanted. I probably played with it for 30-45
minutes. It did lock up on me once. I turned it off and back onand it
reset just fine.

I liked the feel of it, in terms of responsiveness and the sound is much
better than the present cassette machines. I sure hope the production
models sound that good.

There are 2 USB connectors. The cartridge actually has a USB connector as
well as the USB on the side next to the earphone jack. It is a 1/8 inch
jack, as I recall. I don't remember a 14 inch jack like all APH machines.

Again, I liked the machine for its application.

Well Said Fred:

we all need to keep in mind the vast majority of NLS patrons do not use and
perhaps have no interest in computers. They just want to read books. NLS is
aiming for the simplest equipment for the most people.

Fred were you able to get your hands on one of the new players?

Subject: [Dtb-talk] Comments On NLS Digital Player System

: Hello,
:
:
:
: This morning Judy Dixon was in Lansing, MI and showed the two prototype
: players to a group of us. The overall reception was very positive. My
: personal reaction is very positive. We talked about some of the
complaints
: from people who have seen the player. It is hard to disagree that smaller
: is generally better and that page numbers are a good function to have. On
: the other hand, the machine is very usable for a broad general population,
: such as that served by NLS.
:
:
:
: One topic that did come up was a software player version. Judy indicated
: that there are no present plans for such a player. She said that APH and
a
: couple others are planning NLS compatable players. I think a software
: player is a pretty important necessity.
:
:
:
: I, for one, am very excited about the digital changeover for NLS. I know
: some on this list feel pretty strongly about CD's, but I think NLS made a
: good decision in concentrating on a solid state solution that appears
likely
: to be relevant for decades to come. NLS has a lot of interests to balance
: such as copyrights and a wide range of users to mention a couple. I
: believe this system will work well for all of us.
:
:
:
: My hat is off to NLS and everyone who helped get us to this point.
