While I don't want to rumor monger, I have now heard from several
separate sources that Michael Moodie, Deputy Director of the National
Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is going to
be retiring soon. In fact I was told it is at the end of this week.
Those of us who are interested in digital talking books owe a great
debt to Michael. He shepherded everybody through the process that
produced the ANSI/NISO Z39-86 Standard. He has been the prime day to
day mover and shaker in NLS's efforts to convert their program to
digital. It is a multi-year, multi-million dollar complex
process. Michael has done a masterful job of taking input from many,
juggling myriad details and making many wise and good decisions. The
system/process is much more complex than most would imagine.
I would like to thank!!!!! Michael for all his work, and wish him
success in his next endeavor. If he does as well at it, as he has
done with his current under takings then we surely will hear about him again.
Good Bye.
Dave
