Greetings all!

The NFB of Denver will hold its annual Holiday Party from 10 to 2 on
Saturday, December 14 at the Colorado Center for the Blind, 2233 W.
Shepperd Ave. in Littleton. As has been our tradition for a number of
years, the party is held in conjunction with the Center’s Youth FAST
program, so we’ll have lots of excited children! Oh, and some
teenagers. You never know what kind of mood teenagers will be in.

But don’t worry, we won’t be fasting. We’ll be serving hot meatball
sandwiches and more. And we invite everyone to bring a holiday treat
of some kind – cookies, banana bread, fudge. Just no fruit cake
please!

And what will we do for four hours besides eat? There will be holiday
music, gift-wrapping for the kids, holiday crafts, help for the kids
to write Braille letters to Santa, a visit from Blind Santa (with
small gifts for the kids),

Grown-ups can do crafts too. And then there is the White Elephant Gift
Exchange, or as some have taken to calling it – the Angry Elephant.

Here are the Elephant Rules:

1. Bring a gift of between $15 and $20. This must be a
newly-purchased item, not some raggedy old broken-string tennis racket
you found by the dumpster. This isn’t that kind of white elephant. It
has to be a new item.

2. It also has to be wrapped. If you don’t have wrapping paper at
home, you can wrap your gift with the kids. Of course, you’re going to
have to bribe them to keep your secret!

3. Lastly, if you cry easily, don’t do the White Elephant Gift
Exchange, because the rules of the game say that anyone can take the
gift you open when their turn comes. You can get a lovely gift and
then someone else in the holiday spirit can just rip it out of your
hands. That’s why I don’t play. Who wants to cry at a party?

Okay, see you next Saturday!
