Hey folks, this is one among many other programs we need to protect. The NFB will be working on this nationally, but it is important that we sound off locally as well.

Best,

Scott

Subject: CTBL Update - Budget

Hello CTBL Patrons –

You may have heard by now that President Trump’s budget eliminates the Institute for Museums and Libraries Services (IMLS).

Why should you care? CTBL receives 25% of its budget and 6.75 of our 13 staff are supported with funds that come from IMLS. If this cut were to go through CTBL services will be seriously compromised. It is not clear what will happen to the library.

How can you help? Contact your federal legislators and tell them how important CTBL is to your quality of life. If you know them personally even better.

Here is a link that makes it very easy to find and email your Senators and Representative: http://action.everylibrary.org/preserve_funding_for_the_neh_nea_and_pbs <http://action.everylibrary.org/preserve_funding_for_the_neh_nea_and_pb>

While it calls for supporting additional programs, you can use their proposed language or write your own. I have created a suggested short narrative that you can use to copy and paste. Or you can write your own.

I am writing today to ask you to preserve funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services slated to be cut in the recently released "America First" federal budget. The small amount of federal funding appropriated each year makes a huge difference in our lives. IMLS funds supports the Colorado Talking Book Library which makes a difference in my life every day. As one of your constituents who cannot read standard print, I would not have access to books that come directly to me. My quality of life will be compromised. As your constituent, I appreciate you supporting the IMLS and will watch as the budget moves through this Congress. Thank you for helping to make and keep me connected to reading.

If you change the language, don’t forget to adjust the subject line.

Thank you for your help. It will make more of an impact coming from users of the service.
