Subject: Death of Dr. Ken Schmidt

Dear Colleagues:

Ken Schmidt, retired longtime Field Services Administrator for the Colorado
Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, died on Sunday morning. He had brain
cancer but was resting comfortably surrounded by family at the time of his
passing. Ken was a part of the DVR family for a very long time and was seen
by many as a mentor and even a father figure. I worked closely with Ken for
over seven years and learned a great deal from him. He was loved and
respected by many people in the field.

Ken personified how someone's life can change for the better through using
the services of the public vocational rehabilitation program. In addition to
his extensive experience working with Colorado DVR, he also worked for Texas
VR early in his career. Ken went on to earn a PhD from the University of
Northern Colorado during his career in vocational rehabilitation. He also
received numerous awards and recognition for his work in VR.

Ken's family is finalizing arrangements for visitation and memorial
services. More information regarding the dates, times, and location for his
visitation and memorial service will be communicated via the Ken Schmidt
Memorial on the DVR website (www.dvr.colorado.com
<http://www.dvr.colorado.com/> ) as soon as it becomes available.
