Looking to increase access on your fixed route bus and rail system? Want to
be free from paratransit's next day reservations, pick up times an hour
before or an hour after you need it, and pick up windows that leave you
waiting on the curb for 30 minutes? Ready to be free from the segregation of
the paratransit system? Would you like the spontaneity of just getting on
the integrated bus and rail system whenever you want, just like everyone
else? Come to this training and we will give you strategies to work with
your transit agency to create better access to the integrated fixed route
system so it will work for you.

This free training at Denver Options is appropriate for transit riders with
disabilities, advocates and service providers. We will not be going through
all of the ADA's transit regulations but will be focusing on strategies for
creating access. See details below. Register now as space is limited!

Spontaneous Living, Public Transit & the ADA: A Session for Transit Riders

Geoff Ames & Sandy Lahmann

9:00 am - 11:30 am

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

When people with disabilities are able to access their fixed route transit
system, they are afforded a greater degree of independence and spontaneity
than reliance on ADA paratransit allows. Transit agencies benefit from
reduced reliance on paratransit because their costs are lowered. Strategies
such as deviated fixed route, travel training, and working with local
government entities to improve public rights-of-way can benefit both the
rider with disabilities and transit agencies. This session will provide
strategies for people with disabilities and disability coalitions to work
with their local transit agencies to not only comply with the ADA, but also
go above and beyond ADA compliance in order to benefit both riders with
disabilities looking for increased spontaneity and transit agencies looking
to reduce costs.

No Charge.

Training will be held at the CTAT/Denver Options office:
