[Colorado-talk] Great News

Greetings colleagues and friends,

I want to join our state president and thank you for your efforts throughout
this 2007 session of the Colorado general assembly. Getting this bill
passed took a united effort. As you know, we did not get everything we
wanted with the creation of this commission, but that’s the nature of law
making. We will continue our united effort to mold the commission, and
provide the collective expertise and guidance of the organized blind
movement. While we may not have been able to get the precise commission
structure we had hoped for as Scott says it is a first step. We can
absolutely claim a big victory for the blind of Colorado. Frankly, the odds
were stacked against us even getting a commission. The bureaucrats, some
private agencies which claim to work on behalf of the blind, and the ACB
marshaled their resources against common sense, the will of the majority of
blind people and a solution based approach to fixing woefully inadequate
services for the blind. But we know who we are, and we will never go back.
So, forward, upward and onward to claim victory for the blind and visually
impaired of Colorado.

Greetings to all:

Last night, the House of Representatives concurred with the Senate
Amendments to H.B. 1274. This means that our Commission for the Blind will
be a reality upon the Governor's signature. On that note, we are requesting
a formal signing ceremony with the Governor for which we will get publicity
and have a bunch of our members there. My hat off to all of you who helped
by making calls and sending e-mails!! Thank you so much!! Because of your
work, we have opened a brand new chpater in the life of the blind in the
State of Colorado. Stay tuned for more developments.
