Greetings:

As you know, last week our bill passed the Senate State Affairs Committee. Now, it is before the Senate Appropriations Committee. As you may also know, the Deaf Association was opposing H.B. 1274 to create the Colorado Commission for the Blind largely because they didn't think that Disabled Telephone Users Fund money should be used to pay for the Commission. It is unclear whether the Deaf Association has dropped its opposition or not. The Fund has a $400,000.00 surplus and can easily handle the Commission's fiscal note of $100,000.00 or so. Additionally, because the Commission will address communication barriers blind folks face in getting employment, the Commission is an appropriate use of the Fund.

Again, please tell your Senators to support H.B. 1274. Below is a list with the Appropriations Committee and their contact info. The Committee will hear this bill and several others Monday morning starting at 8:00 a.m. You can listen on-line by going to www.leg.state.co.us and then click on audio broadcasts. At that point, look for the link to Senate hearing Room 356.

Please contact the Appropriation Committee over the weekend. Thanks for your help and stay tuned because this will move fast to the Senate Floor when we will need to generate more calls. We may need to have some amendments as well. Please stay closely tuned. The Committee info is below my contact info.
