[Cccnfbw] With my regrets

All:

I echo Chris's sentiments. In fact, I have privately urged Don to reconsider
his decision.

This is a good reminder that Thumper's dictum from Bambi is most wise: if
you can't say somethin' nice, don't say nothin' at all.

Having said this, however, I also believe that this organization - the
National Federation of the Blind - has a mission that's too important to
allow local conflicts to impede its work.

Perhaps it's also time to consider (a) how we can get past this and other
similar incidents and (b) what we can do to revitalize the chapter and make
its meetings more interesting. This is an effort that all of us should take
seriously.

I urge everyone to download and listen to the following short segment, read
by Dr. Jernigan, that pertains to this endeavor.

Don

I feel upset at the events you stated. It seems unfair this has happened,
but I understandI think and I am sorry you have stepped down.

I view you as one of the core people of our local chapter. You are open and
friendly, with a sense of humor.

You have offered your help to others and that says a lot about your
character, I value that.

Hope to be at the next meeting and thank you in person for your efforts to
our group.

Chris

Hello,

I learned today from Les, that someone has complained about my minutes. This
both angers and hurts me. I know that spelling is not my long suite. I am
also a very busy person and minutes for the NFB are not at the top of my
priority list. On the other hand, I believe strongly in the mission and work
of the NFB, and strive to participate in meaningful and helpful ways.

To have someone go to the president and complain about my work, and not come
to me first, is an affront. We vote on excepting the minutes at every
meeting. No one has ever objected to the minutes I have submitted.

Because of this treatment I am resigning, immediately, from the office of
secretary. I do this in protest to this line of treatment from my supposed
NFB family.

If we are going to build and maintain a functional and healthy chapter we
must be more mindful and caring of the feelings of dedicated members.

We offended Beth, in the past, but she still participates. I will still
participate, but will no longer serve as secretary.

Don Mitchell
