Hi.
George asked me to post this message to the list.
See before my signature.
See you all this afternoon.
Greetings all,
I wanted to take a moment to reiterate what I have said privately and
what I will say at the meeting this afternoon about my resignation. I
believe that
CABS is an excellent division of an outstanding organization, and thus
its leader needs to be someone who can dedicate the time, energy, and
enthusiasm
for the cause. I am currently going through a discernment process to
become an Anglican priest. This takes a good deal of time, as it
involves not only
work with a committee and church volunteer activities, but also entails
moving across the country. Additionally, although I believe in the
cause of the
NFB my first priority is my church and the work I subsequently do for
the Kingdom. Finally although my job at Worley Enterprises involved
many facets
one major aspect of this was Federation work. I had more time for
volunteer activities at W.E. because Kevan was gracious enough to allow
me to use company
time for my NFB work. With the relieve of this employment my time has
been further divided.
I intended to anger no one with my resignation as CABS President. I
believe however that CABS deserves someone who can focus on the objects
of the division,
which are so important to our cause as blind students. I will continue
to support CABS in all ways that I can, but attempting to run a ship
while attempting
to do five other things of equal or greater importance is simply unfair
to me, to the CABS board, and to the CABS membership in general.
I hope that Marty is elected this afternoon, as I believe she will
provide outstanding leadership. Her relieving me of my duties between
the canceled meeting
when power was going to be transferred on Dec. 15th, is but one aspect
on her leadership. I trust the meeting this afternoon will go well, and
I am eager
to see all of you there.
Sincerely,
George McDermith, former CABS President
