Hello all.
State convention will take place from october 4-7.
Its at the doubletree hotel.
I believe the room rates are either 70.00 or 79.00 per night.
For as many people as you want to put in a room.
You can make your reservations online at www.nfbco.org, and click on the
events, or state convention link.
You can call the doubletree at 303-321-3333.
The deadline for reservations is september 6, 2007
You can also pre-register for the convention at the nfbco website.
Full registration is 80.00 bucks.
That includes the siniors fair, the two luncheons, banquet, and the
convention.
If you only want to attend everything except for the siniors fair its
ten dollars cheaper.
If you wait until the day of the convention to register its about 100.00
bucks.
There is a roommate coordinator for those looking for roommates for
state convention.
I don't have her information in front of me at the moment.
You may be able to get it from lisa, or lorrinda at the center.
Finally, you need to request financial assistance for state convention
by september 15th.
That is scott's deadline.
As for the student devision, the deadline for nominations for the ray
mcgeorge award is september 15th.
This award goes to someone that has been outstanding in their field, of
working with blind people.
For example, one recipient was doris willoughby.
For her work with blind children and adults.
The students will also give a little award to future young blind leaders
of tomorrow.
Thos nominations are also due on the 15th.
This award will come from the student division, and will be given out at
our meeting.
The person has to be a student, and must be involved with his or her
community, and shows potential for leadership.
For either of these awards, I need the following:
name of person:
why you believe they should recieve either award?
A little biagraphical sketch about them.
For examble, you can say, I would like to nominate Ron jones for the ray
mcgeorge award.
Ron has been teaching or working in the blindness field for many years.
Explain what kind of work he does, and how blind people have bennifitted
from this work.
Tell, us a little about this person as well.
The same is for the future leader award.
The only diference is that you tell us the age of the student as well as
his or her name.
In the email, put ray mcgeorge award, or future student award in the
subject lines.
Two more things.
First, as the student devision we need to find door prizes for the
convention, and for our meeting.
Second, the students will be selling snack packs at state convention.
So, I hope that the intire board and those members who can will come in
on thursday night.
So we can fill up the snack packs ready to be sold starting friday
morning.
Yes, the convention will start with general sessions on friday this
year.
The student meeting is saturday afternoon.
I believe that is all for now.
If I missed anything, others please jump in and add to this long
message.
I look forward to hearing from you all and hopefully seeing you at state
convention.
Have a blessed day.
Regards,
Melissa R. Green
