[Blindtlk] Seeking Advice on Online Education

Diane,
A friend of mine who is the VP of the East Hillsborough (Tampa) Chapter
just received her B.S. in Criminal Justice from Florida Gulf Coast
University, a State University in Florida. She took a full load on-line each
semester in order to receive assistance from the Division of Blind Services.
I can tell you that she found the classes very demanding, as much of it was
self-study. She was required to post scholarly messages for each class every
week, basically writing a three to five page paper each time with references
in APA format. She did take one class this semester in the classroom because
the course was not offered on-line and it was her final requirement for
graduation. She also took a certification seminar from one of her on-line
professors who taught her Forensic Psychology courses and said she wished
she had had the opportunity to hear him lecture, as he offered some
excellent examples and was a tremendous lecturer. At the same time, it fit
well into her busy schedule of caring for her granddaughter (she is 47; that
is she, not her granddaughter! smile) and her volunteer work with the NFB.
She also interned this semester with the public Defender's Office.
If you would like to write to her off-list, please send me a private
message and I will give you her email address after I check with her to make
sure it's okay. My email address is

Fraternaly,
Marion Gwizdala
