Sean,

I carry a telescopic cane in my backpack's umbrella pocket. As for uneven
sidewalks and the like, I've gotten so good at switching my grip when I
encounter these things that I don't worry about using said telescopic cane
on the horribly uneven sidewalks here in Monmouth, Oregon.

It really takes a very sharp bend to break the NFB rigid carbon canes! It
can be done, but not easily. Frankly I think the heavier RainShine canes
would be even harder to use on those surfaces because you cannot so easily
glide them over the uneven ground.

Of course, this is why there are so many kinds of canes. Everyone has
their own preferences.
