[Blindtlk] my friend

Eric, I beg to differ with you. Forgive me, but, your message compels me to
ask; do you not know how to cut your own meat? I ask this because you hint
in your message about crumbs flying all over the place. I ask, not to
insult you, rather, I ask this to try to persuade you toward a different way
of thinking about the issue. This is a topic which comes up from one time
to another; some blind people, (the more dependent ones I'd assume)
hollering that come what may, somebody else is going to cut their meat for
them. Others, with equal passion, (and the more independent ones) insist
that, no matter what, nobody is going to cut their meat for them. My
friend, you usually don't even need a knife to cut meat loaf; rather, a
fork is often enough. My solution for you, just in case you have issues
cutting meat is this. Cook something at home and privately practice cutting
it. IN an establishment restaurant, you're less likely to make a fool of
yourself if you don't waste the waiter's time asking him to do something
which you really should be able to do yourself. After all, he's got other
tables to wait on and cutting up your meat is just going to waste his time
and run him the risk of catching hell from the head chef besides.

No, it's quite clear to me.  Dewey's friend was all together in the wrong;
and, Dewey was absolutely correct. But why? It's not enough to say the
friend was wrong and Dewey was right. We must, I think, explore the deeper
underlying assumptions present here.

1. Let's be quite candid with ourselves and each other here. From what
Dewey has told us, I'd gather that his friend is decidedly less independent
than Dewey himself; or at least, it would appear that dewey so believes. I
take this from the way in which Dewey attempted to persuade his errant
friend to look at the issue of cutting meat from a different perspective.
In this, I seem to recall, he utterly failed. But why? Was it Dewey's
fault? No. Clearly, his friend not only was dependent, but was overly
comfortable being so and just doesn't care to change. And yet, in the face
of all this Eric, you say that Dewey gives blind people a bad name? Stop
and think a moment my friend. Think carefully. And put to yourself this
question. What are all the factors which cause you to think this way?
Would you go even further and assert that all truly independent blind people
give all blind people a bad name? If so, be unpleasantly honest with
yourself and ask why. IF not, ask why. Could it perhaps be that you
yourself are in need of training? IF so, may I suggest:
www.lcb-ruston.com
or any other of our centers as a good starting point?

Look Eric, let me make one thing clear. I no next to nothing about you. I
can only get glimpses here and there from what you tell us. I'm sure I'm
not the only person who may have something to say about this. But, Eric, I
am beginning to sense there are other issues here which we might need to
explore.

Sincerely yours,
The Constantly Barefooted,
Ray

Dewey, blind people like your friend, give blindness a bad nade! I _truly
believe, that, what you did was in the lines of god etiquette. I would get
up, too.

I would want my burger or meat loaf cut up, too. _but, _because the
establishment _is _a _restaurant, I would let the waiter or waitress do
that for me, period, end of discussion. Why? This is because I might have
crumbs flying around!

You did not say, if you invited him out, or he, (your friend,) invited
_you out. Don't _ever go out with this guy again, you hear me?

Eric
