It helps a lot! It adds to what I already found. Thanks much.

Subject: [Blindtlk] Newsline Beginnings
We started out with a pilot project in 1990. The Baltimore Sun was, if I
remember, our first paper. We quickly added the Wall Street Journal. It
has gone through several iterations. There was at first only one number
to call, and get the paper read from Baltimore. During the mid nineties,
some states had a dedicated computer that handled six, twelve, or
twenty-four incoming lines for callers. Occasionally, it was necessary
for someone to go down and reboot the computer. It lived in my office in
Colorado for a while.
I don't know who was the first user, probably Dr. Jernigan or Dr.
Maurer. Most of the national board, if not all, boot numbers to access
the system on a pilot basis in 1990. You could contact folks who were on
the board at that time for personal recollections. I was just pleased to
be able to read a newspaper once in a while, even if I had to pay long
distance charges (yes Virginia, the really used to charge a lot for it)
to do so.
Hope this helps.
