Hi, Cheryl,
Please take a look at the April 2006 "Braille Monitor" article. It will
answer these questions and more. For the bottom-line answer to your
question of timing, here is my idea for it. If you wish to be a part of
the entire convention: arrive at the hotel in time for the 8;30 A.M.
events on Saturday, June 30; leave after 5 P.M. on Friday, July 6. The
convention breaks down into these 3 big sections:
Saturday has many workshops and seminars, all day and into the evening.
By the way, Mrs. Cheadle tells me that her division, the National
Organization for Parents of Blind Children (NOPBC) has changed a bit and
now charges $15 for attendance at their convention events, which covers
the Saturday day-long seminar plus all the daily special workshops and
meetings they run all week. The single fee of $15 covers all the
meetings plus the fat packet of materials.
Sunday and Monday, we have specialty meetings.
One may choose to attend the annual 3-hour to 4-hour meetings of most of
the divisions, the meeting of the NFB National Board, the meeting of the
Resolutions Committee, and find some time to enter the Exhibit Hall
which is open from after breakfast to suppertime on both days.
Tuesday through Friday, we all meet in the big convention hall to be "in
convention assembled" to hear the national issues discussed from the
podium and have a chance to put our two-cents in from the floor mikes.
The Exhibit Hall is open many times these four days, but not when the
general sessions are going on. There will be multiple meetings of
divisions and groups, information events, and fundraisers going on each
morning, each noon, and each evening, except for Thursday night.
Thursday night is the big, dress up pretty, national banquet. The
convention ends at 5 P.M. Friday.
See you there!
