Bookshare is one of those deals where you have to prove you are blind. It
can be done through a doctor's letter or a referral from the Talkingbook
program.
I think the joining fee is $25 and the membership is $50 per year. You can
work off the membership fee by scanning books for the program.
I use it quite a bit, but not in ways that I expected. I find myself
downloading books just to read a few pages on a topic of interest. The
books download so quickly that it isn't a hastle to use it for a reference
repository. I have also found a lot of the reading books assigned to my
fourth grader. It is always helpful to have a chance to talk to him about
what he is reading.
I always get more value back than I pay for the membership.
When I joined, I thought I might scan some books here and there to cut the
cost and help the program out, but I've been too lazy thus far.

Thanks for the info David. I am not currently a member of book share.
Can you tell me what is involved in joining, and whether there is a
charge?
Thanks!

Hi Diane,
Bookshare has a bunch of these Chicken Soup books. They have a link to
some kind of brailling service as well.

Subject: [Blindtlk] Looking for a "chicken Soup" book in Braille
Hi guys,
I am wondering if anyone knows of any place that produces the Chicken
Soup for the Soul books in Braille. Specifically I am looking for
"Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul."
I haven't checked to see whether the state library has it yet, as I
would like to purchase the book for keeps if I can. I imagine I could
go to a bookstore and find it on tape or CD, but I would really like to
find it in Braille if I can. I don't believe National Braille Press has
these.
Anyway, if anyone has any knowledge about whether these books are
available in Braille I would appreciate any info I can get.
Thanks!
