There is one program that did a good job in portraying the blind not as
super blind but as humans. It was called Early Addition, and it had a
blind lady detective. She traveled unassisted with her white cane. The
show was about a man who had the paper of the future delivered to him by
an orange tabby cat, and he would have  24 hours to stop whatever crime
that would be committed.
