[Blindtlk] question

Hey Corrie: I think you've heard many observations here, but I too have a
sighted partner, and I think that there is nothing wrong with the sighted
person to just say "No" once in a while. I'm not even sure there has to be a
reason. You should never expect that the sighted person should be obligated
to drive even though you understand the other friend's transportation
issues. Your friend should too. You never want your sighted partner to
resent you or your blind friends. There may be times when your wife has no
problem with taking on a passenger. Sometimes she will. I believe it takes a
bit of understanding and mutual respect on both sides of the issue. You
should also give her credit for being honest about saying no. She could do
it, and stay silent and hate it, or she could come up with some stupid
excuse and hide her feelings about it. There is also the possibility that
your friend, without realizing it, is perhaps beginning to expect rides
whenever it's beneficial or convenient. Maybe your wife wishes your friend
could work out his own transportation logistics for himself and for them
not to always include you and her. The fact that he has to take a $14 cab to
a theater is something that maybe your wife doesn't want to have anythinng
to do with. Please remember, she is the driver, and you can't make somebody
do something they don't want to do.
