and of experience; at Lindsay's age, the worst possible sin is for there to 
be the remotest scintilla of a possibility that one might not be liked or 
accepted or, horors, that one might be different! It's only with experience 
that we come to realize that popularity is a particularly weak reed upon 
which to anchor our mansion and that, in truth, *everyone* is different in 
some way.

    I guess my cane just embarrasses me.  Sometimes it feels like
    kids won't like me because of my cane.  The back pack will help
