Has anyone seen "An American Christmas Carol" with Henry Winkler? It is a
very nice re-telling/americanization of "A Christmas Carol" with Winkler as
the Scrooge-like Character. Not sure if it's available on DVD or not.
Winkler's ability to act goes *WAY* beond the fonz. *SMILE*

When I was a kid, my favorite Christmas special was the Jim Henson creation
Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas. I just looked online and it's now available
on DVD, so I may have to pick it up. I've read that it's not the best Jim
Henson production from a technical standpoint, but I always thought the
story was nice and the songs were great. I watch gene Shepherd's A Christmas
Story every year at least once, and it never fails to make me laugh, never.
I don't even mind the reference to blindness, because it's so obviously
intended to be melodramatic. 'so many great lines: Randy in the snow suit
screaming "I can't put my arms down!"; Ralphie's dad (Darren McGavin should
have won an Oscar) reading the label on the crate containing his "major
award": "Fra-gee-lay! Must be Italian!" and on seeing Ralphie's horrid bunny
suit from his Aunt Clara: "He looks like a deranged Easter bunny."; and of
course Gene Shepherd's hilarious narration throughout: "Schwartz committed a
slight breach of etiquette by skipping the triple dare and going directly
for the throat!" and regarding the bully Scott Farcas: "He had yellow eyes!
So help me God, yellow eyes!" I also love It's a Wonderful Life, and not
just because of its Christmassy ending but because it's terrifically acted
throughout and confronts hardship and fear and George Bailey's resentment at
being stuck in his hometown in a realistic way but still ends on a
life-affirming note. In fact, the ending is all the more special when you
realize how dark the rest of the movie is. Okay, enough from me.
