Someone said they didn't know what HD radio is. It is a way for FM stations, through digitizing their signal, to broadcast multiple programs on the frequency they now occupy. Our public radio station here continues to broadcast in traditional FM but offers an alternative program such that if you want classical music in the morning when the news shows are on, you go to that channel and get it. Likewise, if you want NPR talk radio during the day when music is normally played, you use the other channel.

Currently these receivers are setup without audio prompts and rely on the on-screen technology now so often employed.
