The Brits swore they would never give up their beloved pound notes, but they
did almost 20 years ago, and no one threw themselves into the Thames as a
result.

I think you are right, Mike, that at first it would be a tough sell, but
people would adjust, and I think it would be a boon.

As for the weight of carrying around coins, truth is, many of us use debit
cards and electronic debits nowadays anyhow.
