I have never heard of one. I would encourage you to check with the Canadian
bar association or whatever they call themselves. A few years back, we had
heard of a Canadian Association of Visually Impaired Lawyers or something
like that. That didn't do what the Commission does, but it is the only
disability based lawyer group of which I have heard in Canada. I know also
that the British bar has something like a group of solicitors with
disabilities. One thing that does distinguish our Commission is that it
publishes the disability law reporter. I am not aware of anything like
this elsewhere. The other thing to keep in mind is that there are much
fewer lawyers with disabilities in other parts of the world.
Tradditionally, disabled folks are not directed towards the law as a
profession. That is true here as well but not nearly to the same extent and
the trend is changing. If you find anything, please share it with the
list.
Thanks,
Scott C. LaBarre, Esq.

Hello everyone,
I would like to announce that the Commission's website has undergone some
important renovations. At http://www.abanet.org/disability you can now
notice the following developments:
a.. Streamlined information. The homepage is sleeker and has better
access to the information you want! There are also portal pages for lawyers
and law students. Both law students and lawyers now have their own portals
with specific information relevant to them.
b.. 2009 Conference page. The second annual National Conference on the
Employment of Lawyers with Disabilities is now up. Although the planning of
the 2009 conference is in its early stages, be sure to check back to this
page for important updates!
c.. Learn more about the Commission. A new page with each of the
Commission's subcommittees is up in the "About" section.
Also, don't forget some of the classic exclusive features of the
Commission's website. Features you can not find anywhere else:
a.. Our 50-state lawyer directory has an updated national listing of
lawyers who practice disability law
b.. Lawyer Spotlight. Each month we have a new lawyer with a disability
who has proven to be an asset to the profession. Check back at the beginning
of each month for a new interesting and inspirational bio!
c.. CMPDL publications. From our new reference manuals, to the Law
Reporter, to the online resources, the CMPDL is your place for new and
comprehensive disability law information.

~ Feel free to pass this easy and new reference around to your friends and
colleagues! ~
