Subject: [blindlaw] Any advice?
Hello,
I don't want to sound negative on my first email to the list, however, I am
having a very difficult time finding a good job. I went to an above average
ABA accredited law school. I worked hard in law school, academically I was
ranked higher than most of my peers. On my first attempt I passed the
California Bar. In law school I interned at two civil law firms, for a
federal judge, and for the Department of Labor. I also have a Masters
Degree.
I have sent out at least five hundred resumes to various law firms. I have
been to at least twenty or twenty five interviews in the last six months.
The only company that offered me a job, which I started working at seven
weeks ago, is a non-legal position at a collections agency where I spend all
day in a cubical doing contractual analysis. The job pays about the same as
a manager's salary at McDonalds or 10,000 dollars less than what my little
sister makes who just got her undergraduate degree. I'm the only attorney in
the company admitted to the California Bar.
In the meantime I have continued to send out resumes and go to interviews,
however, no one will hire me. I have also ranked in the first band on the CA
Attorney General's eligibility list. I go to the interview and then several
weeks later get a rejection letter.
It is a very bad thing. It makes me feel very bad. I have been told that I
interview well by the career center. I don't know what to do. I can't help
but feel I'm not being hired because I am legally blind. Can anyone relate
to this situation? Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? I'm willing
to do whatever it takes to get a good job. I'll move anywhere in the
country.
