Annual Salary Range: $59,592 â $72,446
The City of Tacoma is recruiting for an ADA Coordinator to ensure the timely and ongoing compliance of programs, practices, policies and facilities of the City of Tacoma with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The position ensures that the City ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan is implemented and updated, informing the City Council, the Tacoma Area Commission on Disabilities, and staff on the progress of implementation. Responsibilities include investigating constituent grievances; coordinating with other appropriate agencies to resolve complaints regarding discrimination on the basis of disability; conducting regular reviews of City facilities, programs, and policies; working with City Council, citizen commissions, and staff to clarify City responsibilities pertaining to persons with disabilities; acting as staff liaison to the Tacoma Area Commission on Disabilities, and coordinating the training of departmental ADA representatives and other City staff to ensure that all City operations are in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelorâs degree in disabilities studies, political science, social services, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or with a certification in disability policy and services, occupational therapy/physical therapy, or related field and five years of increasingly responsible experience in the human rights or human services field. Additional experience and training may be substituted for up to two years of education. Experience working with persons with a broad range of disabilities. Knowledge of and experience with interpreting and enforcing the ADA is highly desired.
