I believe Earle Baum Center of the Blind in Northern California has some
experience with these products. If I recall they previewed it in their
Vision Rehab Therapist, Denise Vancil's, Introduction to Vision Loss series.
You may want to contact Jeff Harrington, the Assistive Tech maven there,
Jeff Harrington [harrington at earlebaum.org], or maybe Denise directly.

Subject: [blindlaw] ID Mate Omni bar code scanners
Hello,
Has anyone had any experience with a product called the ID Mate Omni bar
code scanner? It is designed to read and speak the names of groceries and
other products, but it will also let you put bar codes on your own items
such as file folders, computer discs, etc, then the ID mate can be used to
read aloud the description that you stored in the unit for that item. I
would like to hear about its reliability, the completeness of its database,
and any uses you may have found for it in keeping your office and life
organized.
Thanks in advance for your assistance. for your help.
Dennis Clark
