This is to notify you an executive leadership vacancy in the Federal
Highway Administration's (FHWA) Office of the Chief Counsel. We want to
attract a diverse pool of candidates from within and outside government
who can bring strong executive skills to the Deputy Chief Counsel
position.
* Deputy Chief Counsel - Washington, DC
The Deputy Chief Counsel is FHWA's senior career attorney. Together
with the Chief Counsel, the incumbent is responsible for providing all
legal advice and legal services to all elements of the FHWA. In this
capacity, the Chief Counsel supervises FHWA headquarters and field legal
staffs. The Deputy Chief Counsel is FHWA's senior ethics official.
He/she acts in a supervisory and coordinating capacity over three
Headquarters divisions and five field legal services divisions
(providing legal services to the 52 Federal aid Division Offices and the
Federal Lands Highway Program). The total staff of the Office exceeds
60 employees. Makes assignments of special legal problems, acts in a
advisory capacity on legal approaches involving unusual issues, confers
and coordinates on differences of opinion between attorneys, coordinates
work on problems of particular complexity and importance or that need
action by more than one division, reviews and clears items of work
requiring referral to the Chief Counsel. The Deputy Chief Counsel
frequently serves in the absence of the Chief Counsel and must be fully
prepared to direct all legal serves of the FHWA and carry out the other
responsibilities of the Chief Counsel. This announcement can be
