Please join the DBTAC - Southwest ADA Center at ILRU for a Web cast on
"Court Accessibility".

 

Jack Humburg, M.A., C.R.C., Peter Blanck, Ph.D., J.D., and William N.
Myhill, M.Ed., J.D., will present the Web cast on "Court Accessibility"
Wednesday, December 5,  2007 at 3:00pm Eastern; 2:00pm Central; 1:00pm
Mountain; 12:00pm Pacific; 11:00am Alaska; 9:00am Hawaii.

 

Mr. Humburg will outline Florida's efforts to address accessibility
within the court system, including the role of the Florida Supreme
Court's standing committee on "Fairness and Diversity" The committee, of
which Mr. Humburg is a member, is charged with developing a plan to
remove physical barriers throughout the court system. Ultimately, the
committee aims to develop and implement a statewide transition plan to
eliminate identified barriers.

 

Dr. Blanck will provide a historical and legal perspective of federal
and state responsibilities for the accessibility of their court
facilities and services, including access to building facilities,
communications and information, historical structure exemptions, and
qualifying as a juror.

 

Prof. Myhill will review meaningful engagement in court proceedings, in
consideration of such factors as lighting and seating arrangements, use
of assistive devices and new courtroom technologies, and reasonable
modifications to procedures. Additionally, he will discuss current and
future trends in developing and implementing accessibility standards for
courts.

serves as the Southeast DBTAC's partner for the state of Florida, and
